Thanks to their versatility, DX units are used in a wide range of applications—from commercial real estate to industrial facilities.
DX (Direct Expansion) units are a widely used type of air conditioning system where the refrigerant directly absorbs heat from the indoor air and evaporates in the coil, cooling the space efficiently. Unlike chilled water systems, DX units don’t require a separate chiller, making them more compact and cost-effective.
A DX system typically consists of four main components:
- Compressor – Pressurizes the refrigerant and moves it through the system.
- Condenser – Releases absorbed heat to the outside air.
- Expansion valve – Reduces the refrigerant pressure before it enters the evaporator.
- Evaporator coil – Absorbs heat from indoor air, cooling it before circulation.

This simple yet effective refrigeration cycle allows DX units to provide fast and energy-efficient cooling, making them ideal for residential and commercial applications. The DX units can also work in the heating mode.
